Daniel’s Ill-fated Golan Trip

Some of you may be familiar with the story last week of Daniel Yovel, an 11 year-old boy who lost a foot after wandering into a Six-Day War-era mine field in the Golan Heights.  The snow-covered region made it difficult for his family to discern that they had walked into a dangerous area.

I was heartened to see in this week’s שער למתחיל newspaper that Daniel received two special visitors at the Rambam Hospital in Haifa; they were a former Colonel who lost his foot in a military operation in Gaza and another boy – now 9 years-old, who lost a foot from a Kasam Rocket attack in Sderot two years ago.  These weren’t just visits from amputees – but from other members of Am Yisrael who were there to tell Daniel they understand his personal plight …. and that of the Jewish people….
